Some More Energy Problems

In case you couldn’t stand the idea of a weeklong break without AP Physics to do… Judging from the last test, some people could use a little more practice with energy and work problems.  Here are 10 new multiple choice problems, with their answers.  I suggest the following:

  • Print the problems but not the answers.
  • Read through the problems and classify them as, e.g., “energy”, “work” and also “spring”, “circular motion”, etc.
  • Set them aside.
  • The next day, sit down and try the problems but give yourself only 15 minutes.  Skip as if you were taking a test.
  • The day after that, print a new copy and solve the problems again, taking as long as you want but skipping none.  Do not look at your answers from the timed effort.
  • Then print the answers and see how you’ve done.  See if you answered any of them differently.

From this we can get an idea of where your particular difficulties lie.

Chapter 09 Problems

Chapter 8 Problems

Chapter 8 #22, 28, 68, 106, 126, 132
Due Thursday Nov 13. Tuesday Nov 18

Hello world!

As mentioned in September, the addition of a blog to the class has been an experiment. One thing I’ve come to decide is that it was a mistake to mix all three classes into one blog. So now I’ve set up a new blog for each class:

(There are underscores rather than spaces in those names: “Blog_AP_Phys” not “Blog AP Phys”.)

It will be necessary to register on the new blog. This time, there is a set rule for usernames: As username, use your last name + your expected year of graduation. For example, Bob Smith (a senior) would use smith09. Jane Jones (a junior) would use jones09. Degeneracies in this system (such as two seniors named Smith) will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

You must register on the blog no later than 11:59 PM on 2008 Nov 17. Failure to do will incur a -5 point penalty on the quarter total, with an additional 1 point penalty per day. Selecting an incorrect username will cause that name to be deleted, meaning you won’t have registered; if this makes you late, the same penalty applies.

As of tonight all users will be set to “contributor” status, meaning you can read the blog but cannot create posts any longer. I will move all relevant posts to the new blogs. Sometime in February, this original blog will be deleted entirely.
